Welcome to the Catena Farm-ily!
We are Chris and Jennie, two big-city dwellers, turned small-scale farmers. We fell in love more than a decade ago and have been working toward making our farming dreams a reality.
Our farm is a small-scale, non-certified organic operation, growing vegetables and herbs for the Ottawa/Gatineau region. We currently rent about an acre of farmland in Shawville, Quebec. We run a weekly CSA food basket program, attend the Lansdowne Farmer’s Market, and have fresh produce for sale each week at our farmstand.
At our farm we believe that everything in nature is connected and in order to be good environmental stewards, we have to nurture those connections. So what does that mean? For us, it means using no-tractor and no-till practices, and concentrating on building soil health and quality. We trust in the old adage that you are what you eat and healthy soil produces healthy plants, and in turn those that eat quality produce, have healthy lives.
We are so stoked to bring our local community colourful, flavourful, and nutritious produce and really want to spread the love for naturally grown, amazing veggies. Thanks for visiting the blog and stay tuned for farm updates, important announcements (like our annual garlic or plant sale), delicious recipes and more!
